Scandinavia's first International Film Music Festival

The International Film Music Festival, Malmö 1996, is conceived to celebrate the centennial of the first public screening of film in Sweden, which took place in Malmö on June 28, 1896. The Festival´s basic aim is to showcase and investigate the creative, joyful, and often complex relationship between film and music. Between May 31 and June 9 1996, around 104 films incorporating nearly all types of music - musicals, symphonic scores, jazz, opera, classical, ”easy listening”, experimental, etc - will be shown in Malmö´s major cinemas, including many 70mm titles on Scandinavia´s largest screen. Among the highlights are a symphonic concert with legendary Hollywood scores, conducted by maestro Carl Davis, and performances of a group of ”silent” masterpieces with orchestras led by composer Carl Davis and film music historian Gillian Anderson in Sweden´s most beautiful old movie palace. Seminars, lectures, a composition contest and much more, will also be included in the Festival´s many activities. (Malmö is situated in Scania in the south of Sweden, only 35 minutes by boat from wonderful Copenhagen.)
